Here is another “out of touch with reality” dude who just bought CBS and Tik Tok to mind the youngs better.
Schmidt simultaneously talks about how social media purposefully causes people to surrender agency…by design, algorithms and clicks…while hailing AI and the machines as that which will set us free to pursue our purpose. It’s laughable really. The tech agenda allows them, the technocrats, to pursue their agenda by using us as lab rats for the collection of data and the purported study of all things human and of our world. They speak as if they have found the means to perfect our world and state of being….
But the question remains….on whose terms and by whose standards? Such arrogance…on their part. And we would do well to check our own expectations and demands on life and our being.
And therein lies the rub…when he says or implores us to find a way to say “yes”….to AI and the future that awaits….really? Like we have a choice or agency as their agenda bears down on us? By his measure, we must embrace his assumptions relative to values and desires.
I’m fighting against that agenda….kicking and screaming….particularly given its impact on me in the healthcare arena. And you know what every person says to my objections…”I’m sorry, really I am, you are right to be upset….but there is nothing I can do. “
In short, sectors like education and healthcare, are being stripped of their humanity in the name of “science,” data and AI. It is an ugly reboot of the industrial line style system with people simply tending pieces of a system they hope to fully automate. Imagine, we can be like cars that they hook up to computers to tell you why the engine light is on. Good grief. We are humans full of the dichotomy of life…not programmable units.
One thing is increasingly clear….they intend to deny us our agency by insisting we say “yes” to their agenda whether we want it or not. Regardless of whether it serves us or not.
At present, they are trying to convince us of its merit and mesmerize us with its shiny exterior….woo us into submission and compliance. But one’s lived experience cannot be denied.
What do you suppose happens if we do more than boo them off the stage? What happens if we collectively reject their innovations that dehumanize mankind?
Will they accept rejection and honor such a choice by the masses? Or will they generate opportunities to seize even more control and create more dependence?
The past six years are the answer…as plain as day…for those with eyes to see and an allegiance to one’s own agency.
But are there enough of us to hold the line in any meaningful or effective way?
Complacency is contagious and the enemy in our midst…mostly because too many fear rejection and crave the clicks. And the technocrats know it….it is their secret weapon. So Schmidt can plead with us to grab hold of our agency knowing full well that they are actively working to undermine it.
