I'm thinking this is a fine example of what is going to happen to everyone with many issues when we are dealing with the AI types. Bit by bit then massive take over - I see it every day in Canada where you just get so used to dealing with inconveniences that we all become pathetic and easily controlled because will a robot care ? ... most people don't anyway it seems about many important issues .

I just got my first phone call in YEARS from a business that needed to send an order and couldn't get past the AI computer/bureaucracy so they actually PHONED ME.

And they're Canadian! (I've been told for the past year that the Canadian shops I've ordered from in the past can't deal with new US BS tariffs etc.)

No business has PHONED me for many years, like everyone is obeying the memo that said "text purchases and verification only".

And if there's one little glitch there's no human to work with.

So weird. And so stupid.

All business online contacts act is if they've never heard of a VOICE to VOICE phone call.

Or human to human, rather.

I just hope my tiny purchase doesn't generate another fraud call..... my credit union finally admitted I've been targeted by "an AI algorithm".

And then they kind of shrugged when I asked what could be done.......

Sorry for the delay in my response - something about time ... This was very informative and so pleased they actually called you . Get the blaming of the US for the tariffs - part of the diversion for not looking into our own corruption and many having no idea how propaganda works due to the virtue signalling that is part of what our culture resembles ; more like a poor ostrich gene by the day but we don't have sand to put our heads in ,only snow. What was the company with people that actually called? I frequently look up contact when they actually have a phone number and I go that route ,until that won't be allowed; I like the customer service I get that way and have some antenna that tells me what the people in the company are like - then I'll be a loyal supporter . When speaking with the person - did you like how they were with you ?

Yes, it's a very small business I used to physically go to on Salt Spring but has since moved to Victoria. It's called Samya and has a very gifted Ayurvedic Practitioner at the helm. I learned a great deal from her, but haven't physically been in Canada for 9 years, and I miss it! They were very quick to help fix their website for me and then to call when the Customs thing came up, unbeknown and unexpectedly for them.

Great read about about common decency and hope to see more of that type of thing . So lovely and something heart warming rather than just mean and cold . Thank you - I'll give them some feedback about your experience . Sometimes the good ones don't get thanked enough for being sincere and honest .

Perhaps wait a bit until I see the customs charge - I still don't know exactly what it is, and thought I'd get an email/phone call by now showing it. I do have the ballpark figure they gave me.

And perhaps wait until I get the small shipment and see THAT actual shipping charge.

But yes, my trust in this business was high 9 years ago - and I'd like it to still be so.

Oh dear ,I might have jumped too quickly - contacted them and said something about a person actually calling the customer because of an issue and was impressed with that kind of human reply . However , when I looked at the website and read the reviews ,I was really impressed and said I wished they had something here in Toronto like it . Hope you are Ok with that . I'll let you know if they even respond .

This is all about erasing the present. “They “ want no signs of what is happening in the later part of the 20th century. That is why “they” were so quick to approve “let in” AI…

Shit is hitting the fan in other countries. Censorship is on the rise.

I had a long conversation with an old and very dear friend. She’s same age as myself.

I barely touched the subject as to what is happening and she stopped me in my tracks. She did not want to hear it.

She repeated the serenity prayer…

She took the jabs.

My husband is a well educated man. Scholarship to West Point. Family poor immigrants from Denmark. Received a Purple Heart while in Viet Nam. He is Second -third generation.

I cannot even mention any of this to him. He is not interested.

He took the jabs.

Well, there is the part in the prayer about changing the things that you CAN change. It is just that most people have cramped and palsied visions of what they are capable of. Thus, they miss the point of the prayer.

I spit these people out of my mouth.

Annie I am so sorry. It's a lonely place. Even the ones who think they are on top of things with UFOs and Free Energy are so far behind the curve, totally clueless.

Certainly not a good sign going forward, especially utilizing AI to interact with their customers. Kinda sends a message they don’t give a shit anymore.

All they have to do to destroy WrongThink is have Bots Sub and then Chargeback.

Fee, fee, fee, fee, fee, fee.

(Or human accomplices.)

Content creator has no control over any of the billing other than setting up an auto-renew, **EDIT** has learned that auto-renew is non-negotiable***cannot be toggled off***by reader OR content creator***Substack sets that as default and that is that****

which I've had people come to me and say that they got dropped as paid sub without their knowing too.

This is not Payment Processors Botching Shit. This is a lever of control.

Not so much Fee, fee, fee, fee, fee, fee, but fee fi fo fum time to crush & grind the human scum.

They will cancel all social media with no free speech alternative to follow.

You were given all of these platforms simply so that they could just take it away to fuck you over & you feel loss over something that was never yours. Total net control is a furthering of divide & conquer.

Everything is allowed to be built so that they can burn it back down & leave you with nothing.

Remember, you vill own nussink unt be happy.

Oh yeah, they wish you all a happy & prosperous new year.

Never let them get you down.

There is a lot more to life than social media.

We gather & have our little communities & friends which change throughout our lives.

Every time we change school, went to Uni, started work , changed jobs etc we always found new friends & more importantly found out who our real friends were in seeing who stayed in contact with us over the years.

Isn't that right Mr. Ed ? Furious.

Books (links) will just disappear.

Appears ai is taking over the search engine here.

I know where this is going.

Gonna have to hit the road soon.

They are a vendor. In exchange for the cut, they handle billing. That's how it should be. Do you have any legal resources you can have review the "contract" element of their decision to pass this charge to you?

Expand full comment
Vigilant Amalek Snow Leopard's avatar

They handle billing and they are funded by the Chernin Group and Andreessen Horowitz (the usual suspects) and when Big Bank says my customer says you billed them when they canceled the dispute charge goes to the Content Creator.

Expand full comment
letterwriter's avatar

Yes the funding comes from x but there's often malfeasance or "see what we can get away with" and if someone's decisions are getting adjudicated against, they might not be kept on.

See, they are treating you like a blend of a locked in talent, no agency, and a client to whom they only provide certain services, and the fact is, just because it's in a contract doesn't mean it's legal. In such cases either the entire contract is void if it wasn't well written, or the not-legal parts are void and the rest stands.

Tldr just because they're doing it doesn't mean it's legal. They created a situation where your service couldn't be provided through the platform they vend to you, then bill you for the fallout?

Nah...

I think it's worth getting multiple opinions about, anyway.
