They make the decision to get injected because of their zealous faith in The $cience™, and once they are invested in that irrevocable way, they double down to protect their psyches from their gut instinct that they have been duped into self-annihilating through their pride, ego, and ignorance.
Your theory would be plausible—save for the fact that the zealous faith was on exuberant display long before the injection was unleashed. Masking cultists were operating as early as March 2020.
Now, if you amend your theory so #2 is not solely the jab but any act of compliance with Covidian cult catechisms, that could be argued, but I observed plenty of people who initially participated in masking as a precaution but who did not succumb to mass hysteria, so I don’t think the act of participation alone is sufficient to induce the zealous faith—it merely strengthens the faith that had already been instilled through propaganda.
Your #3 is worth probing. While Covidians giddily lined up for their injection sacrament, others were coerced into this decision. If your theory holds true, those in the latter category would have been converted into Covidians by the act of injection itself.
That may be the case for a small percentage, but in my experience, many of those who felt coerced resented being put in that position and strongly regretted complying, especially if they experienced side effects.
I don’t know Dead Pal Doug, but judging from the hubris exhibited in his tweet, he was almost certainly a Covidian prior to injection.
Which Came First, the Cult or the Egg? Or the Chicken or the Zealotry? Or...something.

*editor’s note: Post is way too long for email.
Here is Topol.
It’s October 16, 2022.
Eric Topol still has this up as his pinned tweet, from November 28, 2020:
Still going strong!
“Medical Research’s greatest achievement!”
I do not believe that Eric Topol will ever acknowledge the damage and needlessness of the injections.
I think Eric Topol is all in for life.
Ride or die.
Does he actually believe this still?
I do not think so, actually.
I think Eric Topol is a very calculating and amoral person. Not even immoral. Amoral.
I don’t think he’s a True Believer.
I don’t think Topol is an actual Covidian.
But a calculating liar.
This is Doug.
Doug dead.
Was Doug already a Covidian here as he postures?
I don’t know. Kinda don’t think so.
I discuss this premise with my homie MAA:

I love MAA. She’s probably more right, I love that feeling of having my mind changed, too.
We’ve had a few good discussions like this!
I know that being human, I need sharp people to bounce ideas off of and explore the room!
Thus, the poll. (I think I’m about to get crushed here.)
